Is ash tree wood good for smoking ?

    My wood guy usually has Oak, Cherry and sometimes Pecan.....never Ash, Where is it a common tree??

      Yes up north… NY state and up.
      Ash bore beetle kills them all
      I live on 5 acres. 3/4 wooded. Had a tree guy come out and he told me I have over 150 dead ash trees. All a result of the ash bore.

      I would think you'd see it in VA if we have it abundantly in MI.

    Huskee your right. White ash across all of eastern and northern USA. Many experts predict that the beetle will kill all ash trees in USA eventually. There’s currently no treatment for killing the insect.

      Due to the spread of The Ash Borer infestation in the Midwest, Ash is widely available here. We've lost thousands of trees in Nebraska. I find it to be a good wood for smoking. The flavor profile, to me, tends to be similar to Alder, but not quite as strong as Oak.
