My wood guy usually has Oak, Cherry and sometimes Pecan.....never Ash, Where is it a common tree??

Due to the spread of The Ash Borer infestation in the Midwest, Ash is widely available here. We've lost thousands of trees in Nebraska. I find it to be a good wood for smoking. The flavor profile, to me, tends to be similar to Alder, but not quite as strong as Oak.
