Anyone else using a miter saw for their wood chopping?

I've finally pulled the trigger on a promising miter saw for my wood. I've been splitting my wood with a maul, but my axes just aren't cutting it so to speak.

Yes, I have an old Ryobi. They are excellent for this purpose, especially if you have an old one or at least an old blade you don't need for finish work.

Right on! I ordered a "rough cut" carbide blade. It's labeled for cutting thick hardwoods. Hope it works out.

    I use a caged beaver.

Lol! Reminded me of Aaron Franklin. "Yeah we're working on a steam powered engine for this new rotisserie pit......but until then, it's just hamsters."

SteveFromLafayette, Is there any other way? I use a 10" Black & Decker! I some time wish I had a 12"-14"? Eat Well and Prosper!

Thanks Dan! Yeah, I also ordered a 10", but I'll just have to make 2 passes if 1 pass isn't enough.

Hahaha, I broke a really low quality mitre saw on some cherry branches last year. I guess I should have spent more than $80!

Ouch! Well, the one I ordered seems to be pretty sturdy. Time will tell.

Just use carbide tipped blades. I tried using a non tipped blade, it did not go well.

I used my mitre saw to cut chunks from my hickory logs to use on kettle and WSM

TheSmokingYeti Huskee I am reminded of the Simpsons scene where Homer and Marge are in a fancy restaurant and Homer asks for "another bottle of your second least expensive champagne".

Seems like I should have bought the second least expensive mitre saw.

Probably safer than a chain saw, too ...

Being nice and all, we still might want this guy out of the gene pool, which may take care of itself.

He clearly has the wrong shade of camo on for that much green. Plus, yeah, no safety glasses.

I tried to use a Sawsall to get Hickory over thanksgiving to no avail. So my next step is to get a chop saw. Also kinda surprised no called them chop saws.

Boys and Girls, I you Do use a Miter Saw take note of the gap in the fence It may be too wide to allow for Safe Holding of your branch with your HAND!
I have nearly had my Fingers Remodeled Several Times! I think a simple jig would solve this but I haven't had time?

                  😚😙🤔😙😚. Dan
