On a whim, when I got my SilverBac a few years ago, I asked their CS team what brand they recommend. Aside from using their brand of pellets, the charcoal pellets were some they advised to steer clear of due to hotter temps.
Charcoal pellets have a place! I don't burn them straight, but they are great to extend pellets. Boosting the overall BTUs, you use less pellets. Also, they are helpful to mix in the other wood fuel at high altitudes.
Anyone tried these in a tube or one of the other supplemental smoke devices? I'd be nervous mixing them with regular wood pellets thinking they may also cause those to burn faster with the higher heat they go at but maybe separately for a different smoke flavor profile. I may give it a try once I break in my new Mak coming this week but wondering if any others have experience.
I have to disagree here. As a long time Pellet Smoker owner (also own a Hunsaker, Weber, SnS, Otto Grill, Hasty Bake, Several Weber’s, MGrills) I would say that the RO Charcoal pellets work very well in My Reqteq Bullseye Deluxe. The fire up fast, keep the chute clean and give off a great flavor! Occasionally I had a smoke tube with peach or cherry. I have never used pellets that get up to temp as fast and light up with no issues and maintain temp perfectly. Being waterproof is an advantage!
