Would be great to have an option for both ;-)

Professional burns faster than Blue, so I tend to use KBB in the WSM for long cooks (pork butt and brisket) ... one full charcoal ring in the WSM 22, with 40 briquettes lit and dumped in the center, will run for 12-14 hours for me.

I've pretty much switched over fully to Professional for everything else, though.

Conveniently, Costco and Home Depot aren't far apart. So, on charcoal buying day I can go to each one easily, and grab a 2 bag pack of Pro and one of Blue. :-)

I disagree slightly. Professional does burn faster, but only if you don't have airflow control. If you have good airflow control you can still get some very long cook times with it, and there's a little less ash to boot.

Not to mention there is less heavy white smoke when you fire up the Professional...at least that has been my experience.

David Parrish .... My experience is that a full charcoal ring of Pro in the WSM 22 burns in the 10-12 hour range and the KBB in the 12-14 hour range, so for anything other than those long brisket/butt cooks, I much prefer Pro. Less ash, less crap in the briquette, etc. .... and when I want to crank my Hasty-Bake up to 800F at the grill, Pro can do it

Thanks for the heads up. Where did you see these prices? I checked and there are no sale prices at my Home Depot and Lowes has blue bag 2-pack for $12.99. I used Professional in my BGE on my last long cook of 16 hours. Here's what was left after that cook. The flame is where I spilled some grease out of my drip pan to get this photo. Due to what lump I can find locally and price, I'm going to be using Professional in my BGE.

I wish the WSM was that stingy with charcoal during a 16 hour cook

Thanks Amajeff99! I'll stock up on the KBB at Home Depot. I don't have a BJ's in my area but I use a lot more KBB in my Kettles and PBC than I do the K-Pro in my BGE. I've yet to find K-Pro on sale anywhere locally.
