    Mystery charcoal

Went on a week long camper trip with my sister and BIL this summer (their camper). One evening they pulled out a small charcoal grill for some steaks, and the BIL had an open bag of briquettes that he used. By chance I took the attached photo of the lit briqs, wondering if anyone might venture a guess as to what brand they were. The steaks were awesome!

I am not sure which they are, but I can say they are not pellets for a pellet grill.

ecowper beat me to it. That’s my guess. But, I will say they do look a lot like the old Weber briqs

I think ecowper is right. They do look like Cowboy briquettes, which have a characteristics "plumpness" to their shape.

+5 on Cowboy. Just curious, what happened to the bag they came in?

5th for Cowboy. Cowboy has been my briquette of choice for a few years.

Also Jealous Devil's Max XL briquets look similar, and are wonderful.

All that said, if you liked how those burned, buy a single bag of Cowboy briquettes and try it out :-)

Well folks, time for me to ‘fess up. I didn’t actually tell the whole truth and nuthin’ but the truth, wanted to see first if anyone could figure it out without me inadvertently dropping any hints in the IP. Sorry about the bit of a charade. Panhead John asked what had happened to the bag, so here it is:

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Felt like they were gold nuggets, never to be held again. My BIL is 75, his mom passed away about 10 years or so ago. He and my sister kept the house, the one he grew up in, during that time for their granddaughters to live in, and finally sold it this past year. Patiently biding its time down in a lonely basement corner was this gem of grooveless Kingsford, waiting to bring forth memories of a better time before its maker butchered it up in pursuit of higher profits. Everyone agreed they were the best steaks we’d ever eaten. 🍷

I think that charcoal is older than I am.

I wasn’t fooled one bit, no sir. I couldn’t tell a brand of briquette from another if’n it was throwed at me and hit me square in the noggin. Guess I never did a deep study on the appeerents of the dad gum things. I juss burn em.
