Upcoming Memorial Cook: Remembering @Mr. Bones, @Danjohnston949, @smarkley, and @EdF

Amazing how time passes by......2 years ago today we lost someone who must be considered the most loved and respected person to ever grace The Pitmaster’s Club, Mr. Bones, Terrance Morris. It sent shock waves throughout our community with the news of his passing. After “Bonsey” left us Spinaker and I felt compelled to honor him by holding a Memorial Cook in his honor in March of 2022. There was such an overwhelming response that we decided to make it an annual event.

It came to my attention that around this time of year, thanks to Elton's BBQ and hoovarmin , that we also lost three other very distinguished members as well. smarkley Steve Markley who passed away in May of 2016, Danjohnston949 Dan Johnston, who passed in February 2019, andEdF Edward Falis, whom we lost in March of 2021. Thank you guys for bringing back their memories as well.

So to honor these esteemed gentlemen I would love to hold another cook to celebrate their lives and contributions, not only here in The Pit, but also in their respective communities and to their families.

WHEN: The weekend of March 22-24. Friday through Sunday.

Please don’t feel obligated to cook on this exact weekend. If it doesn’t work for you, you can most certainly cook an honorary meal prior to or afterwards and post them when it’s convenient for you.

I will start a new thread on Friday March 22 where we can all post our cooks. So PLEASE refrain from posting your cooks on this thread. Also, it would be awesome if anyone could share any special memories of our dearly departed on the new thread as well.

WHAT to cook: Absolutely anything you desire. As these four amigo’s had a vast array of foods that they enjoyed.

Looking forward to an incredible time with everyone while sharing the memories of our most treasured colleagues.

    Thanks to all,

    SteveB

      Well said

I'll have the PBC fired up.
But tempted to buy a Jumbo Joe off Facebook just for the occasion

Thanks for putting this together Steve. I’m in. I’m tied up that weekend, but I’ll do something before or after and add it to the thread.

Remembering Bonesy with a smile on my face and a tear in my eye.

Thanks for doing this, Steve. I might even buy a bottle of Buffalo Trace and raise a toast or three.

I’m in if possible. Recovering from foot surgery just now but should be good to go by then.

                    Absolutely.

For anyone who joined after we lost these dear friends, please go back and read their contributions. They are as warm and as wonderful as they were the moment they were posted to the forum. You will feel their friendship yourselves.

Wouldn’t miss it! I wasn’t around when Dan Johnston was here and I was still new when Ed F passed away, but it sounds like I missed out on interacting with a couple of great guys. Mr. Bones, man, I’m so glad I got to know him for a few years before he passed. The man was truly nice, friendly to everyone and had the absolute most unique style of writing I’ve ever seen, kind of a cross between Mark Twain and Jed Clampett. 😂 The man had a gift…. and also a wicked sense of humor! I miss him every day…..

Gonna have to do some head scratching this time, but yes I'll be there. Last time in 2022 I did two of Mr. Bones favorites, some Creekstone Farms Beef ribs and a Pot O' Beans. Need to think out side the box Trout

I recently smoked and braised some beef cheeks for my first time, turned out amazing. I Feel that's a little outside the box, and may rock it again in memorium.

PaynTrain Beef cheeks are an excellent choice. I use them for barbacoa. That’s a distinct possibility 👌
