Beef and broccoli. I pulled a pound of flank from the freezer and stuck in a bowl of water to defrost, then sliced it, velveted it, chopped up the broccoli, minced the ginger and garlic, made the sauce, and the cornstarch slurry. Rice went into instant pot and as soon as it came to pressure I headed out to the wok burner. Ten minutes later we were eating.

      Magnifique!

Last night I cooked with an ingredient I've never used before: lily bulbs. They were crispy and slightly floral when raw. When cooked, they were meltingly soft, and made me think of what would happen if a water chestnut and a potato had a baby. I may have overcooked them by a minute, but the smaller pieces broke down a little and mixed with the sauce to create a thick, fragrant coating with a great mouth feel for the beef and mushrooms. I have two more bulbs in the fridge and a couple of recipes lined up to try.

I've been curious about lily bulbs since I read about them on the Woks of Life site. Couldn't find them anywhere of course, except for the dried option.

      Your meal sounds amazing.

      Kathryn

The kids wanted ground beef tacos, which are ok, but not particularly my jam.
So for me, I fried up some bell pepper and sweet onion in chili lime seasoning.
added a smidge of the taco meat, avocado chunks, a little cheese, and rolled it in a whole wheat tortilla..
Dinner is served. Click image for larger version

What he said ^. Almost scary it’s so healthy.

Welp, ground beef tacos ARE my jam...! (as well as most other kinds) My standard approach, ground chuck seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic powder, Mexican oregano, red chile powder, cumin, with Heinz "Simply" ketchup (has like six ingredients, and no HFCS), Ortega taco sauce, and Monroe's red chile sauce from my favorite ABQ restaurant. Shredded cheddar, iceberg lettuce, diced tomato-like objects (being winter and all), and some lite sour cream. Super simple and extremely tasty.

The queso was an ok salad dressing, needed to be a bit thicker with cheese… filled as worth retrying at some time,

Good idea on the queso. I would have dipped the burger in it like a French dip but then I'm a messy eater. May have to try this. I'm thinking a mix of chorizo and ground beef in the patty. Hmmmm. Your cooks always inspire me.

      Kathryn

Ha! Must be wok night at the pit. More beef and broccoli. Double batch. EZ lunches ahead.

Light and dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, shaoxing wine and a little corn starch.

SV bone-in pork chops served with quinoa and roasted Brussels with garlic, drizzle of balsamic and parmesan. The SV bath is such a great tool to have to cook and do other things

DaveD in my 3Nail Ironware Carbon Steel skillet on the stovetop. A brush of oil, rub and in the screaming hot pan, flipped back and forth a few times and done. Although I left them on the pan a tad too long. Still turned out nice.

You're going to need a smaller salad...

My father-in-law taught me to eat sardines. One of the many wonderful things he did for me. Sardines and scotch. I called it a reverse-dowry.

Full pork belly smoke went down yesterday for sauna night.

Nothing better after a good cold plunge and a 200 F sauna cycles.

It IS possible to BBQ in the snow! Stews and roasts are great, but it’s always good to see the protein smoking, regardless of climate.

Awwww. So cute. Looks like a good-sized blueberry would have a weight advantage on that little guy.

MsTwiggy , not idiotic at all. Our little grandgirls love the TMNTs and are always on the lookout for them. Plus lots of things clog sewers. Not that I would know first hand.

That said, I remember an old X-Files sewer-based episode that gave me the creeps for a very long time. Flukeman, as I recall?

Here are some chiukie pieces I picked up after morning workout. I realized that going to the grocery store right after working out is not the best idea. I walked out with over $100 in meat from the discount bin.......I think I was a little ravenous after lifting. LOL.

Anyway, here are some chuckle pieces on the BGE. Gonna be a great night for some chuckle tacos down at the sauna.
