I ordered myself a couple of pieces of genuine firebrick yesterday after being reminded of this issue by this thread... I don't have a good place to light chimneys if the kettle is already going, so this will take care of that nicely. Got this:
Ace Hardware used to sell a 6 pack of firebricks rated up to 2700 degrees for $20.00 a few years back.i guess the cost to make everything has gone up include specilty firebricks.
Use these intermediate duty fire bricks to build new fireplaces or to replace old and broken bricks in existing fixtures, wood or coal stoves, furnaces and fireplace inserts. They can also be used to line your fire pit in the backyard or anywhere else you need a brick that can withstand high temperatures and years of abuse.Find the FIRE BRICK CERAMIC TAN at Ace.
