Try a glass bowl next, they are much sturdier. Or right on the concrete so when it starts spalling you get hit with high speed chards of concrete like you're in a BB gun war! Don't ask me how I know what that feels like, just know that we weren't very bright lads growing up. And don't get me started on black powder and shotgun shell experiments....come to think of it, you can do a black powder AND a concrete spalling experiment at the same time!

I did that with my deflector plate for my BGE. I have a porcelain paver next to it that I use to cover the wooden table. I put the hot deflector on it and it exploded like a piece of Corelleware.
