    An augmented SnS (part A)

The new SnS Deluxe kettle is a nice grill. The tried-and-true Weber Performer is a nice grill. I combined the designs to create what I consider to be the best of both worlds. I repositioned the legs/wheels on the SnS kettle to roll in the direction of the long axis of the grill. Then I constructed a larger and stable table/worksurface for the grill. I added the longer and more substantial bottom storage shelf. The V leg ties the table and shelf together to add stability and support. All wood parts are reclaimed redwood.

With the major construction modifications complete, I added the grilling necessities and conveniences. The front table apron is fitted with a metal handybox cover where the magnetic base of my FireBoard mounts. The obligatory bottle opener is mounted there as well. The table end is the mounting point for the V leg and has a turned hand grip for moving the grill. The back of the table has hooks to hold the BBQ tools and gloves.

To light an early start or late finish, I mounted an LED gooseneck lamp on the back side of the table. The lamp folds out of the way when not needed. I mounted a power strip under the table and recessed it to clear the hanging tools. The strip powers the USB LED and accessories such as the rotisserie motor.

I designed and mounted a paper towel dispenser under the grill table. The weight of the towel roll and axle provides enough friction to prevent the towel roll from "unraveling" when the wind blows.

Sorry but I see a major design flaw. I would never want to spill a thing on it - too darn pretty.

It'll wipe clean and a few battle scars will give it some character.

The SnS and Weber folks did the heavy thinkin'. I shuffled their designs and added a few personal preferences.

There are no patents or copyrights on my SnS mods, and I'll share all the insights that I learned on the project.
            The finish is polyurethane.
