I don’t know whether you have the classic or 360. On my 360 it seems machined pretty tight but not completely airtight. I’ve never had any issues controlling temp with the vents from the small amount of seam leakage and after the fire gets going, I don’t see anything visible escaping.

I did add a stick-on nomex gasket but that’s mostly to keep rain water from entering the seam because I hate using a cover.

adding a gasket is pretty easy if you want to try, but have you had any trouble with temperature control or results? A tiny bit of smoke leakage isn’t necessarily going to make much difference. If it’s a lot of leakage or you have a large gap, call pk and talk to them.

I got the classic. Don't know if gaps are large or not since I am new to grilling. I have seen kamados with absolutely no leakage so by comparison it leaks a lot. Thank you for your comments😀

Thanks! New question. I have read about snake method for smoking on weber kettles. Have you ever tried it?

If you got a pk that was poorly machined, I’d expect them to replace it. Maybe take pics if there is a visible gap or pics of smoke coming out.

Welcome to the Pitmaster Club! Thanks for joining up! Best of luck with your new PK! I know they are great grills. Contacting PK might be a good idea too, without an actual gasket, I doubt it will be airtight. However, the more you cook the better that seal will become.

The first or second cook on my pk360 from years ago. Smoke did leak a tiny bit from the seam but not enough to affect the temp or the cook.

Not a snake per se, but more like a cigar or football burn in the basket. For low and slow I just light some starter cubes on one end of the basket. I use the exact same process in a Weber kettle with a SLow-N-Sear charcoal basket set up.

Do you see any difference between putting the starter cubes on top like that, or burying them underneath? I've never tried just laying them on top and lighting them.

I just sort of nestle them in. It doesn’t seem to make much difference with the fan running.

Hi there, PK360 owner here. When I first get a fire started and the inside of the grill is a smoke bomb I do notice a little smoke seeping out of the sides. However, once things settle down the only smoke I see comes out of the top vents. I'm sure there is a small amount that gets out elsewhere but I can't see it. If you do than I'm sure they will fix it.

Make sure the top section is flat on the bottom surface. Sometimes the hinges get offset when you open it. If this isn't the problem; don't worry, they have some of the best customer service in the industry and will replace it. Good luck!

Let's also say that if you are expecting kamado tight then forget it. Like any style charcoal cooker, PK or Weber, you're going to have some leakage. Even with the addition of gaskets to the lids other small spaces will allow air infiltration. That's not a bad thing and it certainly is a manageable situation and very controllable. Unless like others have stated, you have a defect, then I wouldn't stress too much about it.

Welcome to the pit. I just want to add that I'm an owner of a 360 since Sept. 2018 and absolutely love it. Polarbear777 and Larry Grover been very helpful in all things PK. Also to ditto, PK customer services is great if you feel like the unit is defective.

I noticed minor smoke leaks when starting mine up but, it tends to subside as cooks go along. The leaks don't impact temp control of the grill.

Also temp probes are your friend. One time I ran a low & slow test...fire on the right & probes on the left. I put one probe far left, one middle and one close to the fire. The results were 300-325-350. So if you have a bad leak maybe the probes will tell the story and you can show it to customer service.
