I found this video for the PK300. Leaning towards the lift and dump approach. The other idea I had was to scoop out the coals back into the bag, stick my ash bucket under the vents, and use a brush to brush the ash down the vent holes. It seems like that should also work.
It looks like I should also pick up a nontoxic degreaser for deeper cleans with the hose. It seems like Simple Green is recommended so just use that?
I picked up a used PK Grill a week or so ago. Any thoughts on how to clean the main body of it? It isn't in too bad of shape but could use a cleaning. The grates are easy but since the
My approach, before every cook (which is often), is to place any coals to be re-used into the chimney, then lift and dump everything else. For me, it is the simplest and fastest approach. I would imagine your second suggestion would take some additional time.
Lift and dump for me as well, easy as it gets. Use a cheapo paint brush to brush it out, done in a couple minutes. I do like a clean grill so I often take the food grate in to the kitchen sink, hit it with Dawn Platinum spray (fantastic stuff for grill grates, tools etc.), let it sit for about 10-15 minutes before a light scrub and rinse, schmuck comes right off.
On my PK Original and PK360 I have never done a 'deep clean'. Does not need it. You will get gunk that builds up around the nook and crannies, but I just use a small, blunt tool to dig them out. Wire brush on everything else. I do use simple green on the shelves and cover.
Today, I took off the top shell of the PK300, lifted the coals over and put them in the upside down empty shell, dumped out the ashes from the bottom shell, and put the coals back in. This process seemed quite efficient and avoids the use of a ash basket.
