    Initial Thoughts On PK300

TLDR; Wow. Beautiful and built like a tank.

The smoker shipped quickly and was packed well. The assembly cart was defective but a new one arrived in 4 days and customer service is very good. Comparing the new and original version, it looks like the new one was black powder coated on the inside so perhaps a finishing step missed. They don’t seem to answer phones but email responses are about 30 minutes or so.

Assembly instructions were pretty clear and it took about 40 minutes to put together. Probably 30 if you ignore the 10 minutes I spent trying to make the assembly videos play on my phone (no love for Brave or Safari) and no videos on YT apparently. They could use a pic or two of the screws to make it easier to grab the right one. Also, no instructions for burning it in, so I guess I am on my own there.

This smoker is built like a tank. At some parts when building the MB560, I was seriously bending the metal, but no chance of that here. Everything is quality and I can easily see it withstanding a huge amount of use. The upgrades around the control valves and extra height are absolutely worth the money over the original version. I don’t know anything about screws but they seemed like they were made of steel versus the lightweight and plasticy feel of the MB560. There also didn’t seem to be any obvious parts that would sag with use and warp over time via heat.

I was a bit worried about mobility. However,
moving the smoker is very easy and the wheels easily handle the garage lip. I love the look and heavy duty wheels. Again, everything seems indestructible.

The Littlemore is a great addition and all of the grates are very heavy duty.

I did notice that the side shelf and under the grill shelf seem to have a small scratch on already. Not sure if that will rub out. Also, given the quality of everything else, the paint overspray on the sides seems like it could have been taped more but it more stands out given the attention paid to everything else.

I was a bit disappointed that the SNS charcoal basket didn’t fit but I wasn’t really expecting it to fit as I didn’t even measure it beforehand. I don’t know if I even need a charcoal basket yet anyway.

Overall, an outstanding experience thus far. Very pleased.

I did find two bits of plastic attached to the shelf hinges and four soft covers attached to the grate rests, which I removed. Just in case folks wonder about smells.

Also, found it interesting to see no gasket! We will see how that works.

I guarantee I can't smell it from here. Which is definitely a disadvantage...

I'm now curious about the lack of a sealing gasket.
I hope it's not an issue. I don't recall anyone having to seal a PK lid.

I can't wait to see what you cook on it first.

the gasket is a non-issue, the lid seals tight to the frame if the casting is like the GO. Smoke only comes out of the vents. As to the plastic, I wasn't a fan of how they pack the grates either, but with a little extra care it's a non-issue.

Allon the plastic reference was really due to this thread: https://pitmaster.amazingribs.com/fo...ce-appreciated

The lack of gasket is a deliberate decision. The lids fit together extremely tightly and given the weight of the top, I expect the seal to be tight. I am not expecting any issues but it is interesting to note given many smokers use one.

Congrats, you'll love it. I use my PK probably at least 2/wk.
