Hahahaha, I think my wife has drawn the line at the new truck for this year!!

But now that I think about it, the truck was her idea so there might be a little wiggle room there. Probably shouldn't press my luck, though...

Very nice! I have the combination of BGE and Weber kettle, different mfrs but in essence the same division of jobs, and I’ve found they complement each other well. So should your PK and Akron!

That is the idea. I thought it would offer more fun than two kamados.

You get a lot of options. You can do a mixed protein meal of ribs and grilled chicken, for example, maximizing the strengths of both. Or, you can use both for smoking, or both for grilling, with the attendant (slight) compromises each requires to excel at the other’s strength.

        Yes!! Exactly!

I usually do smoked french fries on one and sear steaks on the Akorn for example.

Congrats! I love my PKTX. I have that and an original Weber 22. I love them both but I use the PK a lot more. I'm sure yours will fit right in well with your other cookers and find what it's good at.

barelfly yeah I can put it together so it can sit in the basement because I have no room left in the garage. I’d prefer to get rid of the MB though!

Beaten back for now. The PK can last decades so we’ll have to see how long the Akorn lasts.

I have seen several used Akron's online in my area...
Even the one's you can tell they weren't properly cared for look pretty easy to clean up.

So you should be good for a while anyway. Right up until you see something you must have...

Like a nice, brand new Pit Boss griddle maybe?
                Sorry, I couldn't resist...

I do feel like the Akorn is pretty sturdy. Maybe I will buy another one when this one dies.

Not so much for griddle cooking over here. We just don’t eat a lot of things that can be griddled but I do have some griddle pans that can be used if we see the need.

              Happy for you,
The PKs will last a long time, long time, from generation to generation.

I guess assembly will be delayed because they shipped a defective cart assembly so I am stopped at step 3 in the manual. One of the tubes will not fit despite considerable force and WD40 while the other three slid in easily. I am waiting to see when they can ship a new one or if they have other suggestions.

Edit: New assembly is being shipped.

that's a bummer, but good thing you didn't keep it in a box for a year before discovering that

Once you do get it together that should be the last bit of maintenance you need to do on it other than an occasional cleaning. I picked up a used PK a a couple years back that was probably 40-50 years old. Still cooks like a dream and absolutely zero damage or even blemishes on the aluminum body. I keep it out uncovered all year round and it still cooks like new.

Well that’s a bummer. I assumed this would be pics of your new baby, and maybe even a first cook. Will the new assembly arrive soon?
