I have 3 PK's, the Original, the New Original PK300, and the New PKGO. I also I have an SNS Kettle. Kettles and capsules just cook different not a big deal though. I still use both the kettle and the PK's(no law against it). I actually use the old PK Original with a stainless steel grate more then I use the New Original PK 300 or the kettle. It turns out I like the more basic primitive feel of the old Original over the pretty New Original PK300. Although for me I do have better burn control of the charcoal(and clean up) with the SNS kettle when doing low and slow but I just figured out I can put two Littlemore grates on top of the PK grates and direct grill spare ribs in about an hour or so and they come out awesome. They have a crispy grilled flavor not so much smoke flavor. My advice is if you have the space get two grills regardless of the type or brand that way if you have a big cook you can still two zone with both grills(no law against it) and not stress out over space. I have my PK's sitting right next each other and some times both going at once.
After growing up with Weber kettles, and 27 years of owning myself, I’m moving to the PK300, and couldn’t be more excited.
The Performer pictured is a 2010 model, and the photo was taken two years ago after I had to replace the bottom bowl after parts of the bottom corroded through. Unfortunate, but maybe not surprising given that it has seen extremely high use - I’d say 4-5x/week for most of the year, and it has worked as a fantastic complement to the MAK. I also have a 6 burner Summit plumbed to natural gas, but it NEVER sees use. Now, just two years after replacement, the bowl has started to show signs of corroding through again, and the handle recently separated from the lid. The grill is covered after every use and, as should be evident by the photo of a 10 year old grill, I took very good care of it. Disappointing. This has led me to the PK.
I look forward to putting it together today and starting the journey.
