Congrats!! I wonder if her question about you guessing what she got really was a trap or not. I wonder this because a wise person once told me when you want to take your wife to dinner, tell her to guess where you're taking her, and her first guess will be what she really wants so just take here there. This is, of course, if she's the "I don't care where do you want to go?" non-decision making type. Maybe she was doing that with you before she actually ordered one? Anyway, fun stuff!

So I decided to take a crack at unpacking the grill today. I had watched a couple videos of people unpacking LSG pellet cookers to prepare. I have to say, Chris and his team do an impressive job packing their grills (grillz) to ensure they are safe and secure.
My wife came out and helped, so she was able to enjoy the fruits of her gift through the process! All told, though, the process went much quicker than I had anticipated. From opening my garage door (for extra space) to wheeling the grill into its resting place, everything took less than an hour. It is also very nice that it comes fully assembled, so as soon as it was out, we could move onto cleanup of the pallet pieces.
Next weekend, the goal is to heat cure the paint, season the inside of the chamber, and get my first cook done.🤞
If anyone has any insights/tips, they are more than welcome to share! I’ve been cooking outside for almost 40 years, but I’ve NEVER had a pit this big or solid.
In my time on this forum I’ve always been impressed with the support, advice, and counsel shared here. I’m a part of several different forums for different types of cooking (BBQ, pizza, bread, etc.), and I have to say this site stands out as the most respectful and supportive of any I’ve been on - not that the others are bad, but they can be more likely to devolve into arguments where some people derail the overall conversation just to prove themselves right. Maybe that exists here, too, but I have yet to experience it.

So I was able to season the LSG today. It went pretty well, hovering between 250-300 degrees for six hours.
There was one thing that came up at the end, though. As you can see in the second picture, there was a little bit of paint that flaked off under the gasket at some point. With that in mind, if anyone has any advice on how I should (or should not) handle it, I’m all ears. I’m thinking one of the following:
- get some high heat touch up paint
- put a little oil on it and heat it to develop a seasoning/patina
- hold off for the time being, and see if the steel deteriorates at all
I am also reaching out to Chris at LSG to get his thoughts, but there are a lot of people on here that have far more experience/expertise than I - so any advice is welcome and appreciated!

I know the reputation of Chris at LSG doesn't really need my support, particularly around here. That said, while I'm not much of a singer, he has earned a verse or two of me singing his praises. I reached out to him about my small paint issue, and he got back to me and had shipped a can of touch up paint out all within the day I contacted him. I cannot speak for everyone, but my customer service experience with him and his team has been nothing short of exemplary!
