    WSM thermometer grommet

Went to start my first cook of the weekend today (5am east coast). Get the weber all set up, light it, and as I'm going to thread the probes through the grommet, the whole thing pops out. Any suggestions on an easy way to get it back in there? I remember it being the hardest part of putting the whole thing together. I gave it about a half hour until my arm was burning from the coals getting way too hot. I taped the hole up for the time being and said f' it.

I couldn't even get the grommet in when putting mine together. My wife had to do it and she struggled mightily.

Mine, too. Thank goodness for wives or I'd have resorted to OP's solution.

I've always found Weber customer service to be very responsive and they should be there now. I called them Sat evening a month or so and after figuring out the problem, a replacement part was shipped the next Monday.

I HAD a grommet on my kettle. It popped out. I put it back in and it popped out again. A 5/16" hole with 2-3 wires makes no difference on operating temperature.

I have 5/16 hole w two wires. Agreed I don't think it makes much of a temp control difference, but I jam a little tin foil plug to make me feel good.

The grommet was easy on my WSM. And it hasn't been a problem with coming out. But I am sure that Weber would send you a new one no problem.
