SmokingSteve - "These are a few of my favorite things." (What I've got).
Camp Chef Woodwind 36" pellet grill with Sidekick and grill box and cast iron griddle.
Two Combustion Predictive Thermometers
Two Thermoworks Thermapen Mk 4 (one purple, one yellow). One purple Thermopop. (Vikings fan).
Maverick XR-50 (needs replacement probes due to recent grease fire).
Misen enamel coated cast iron dutch oven.
Grill Rescue grill brush.
-
I have just about every Maverick Temp probe setup they have made in the last two years, EXCEPT this new one.
It looks like a winner, ESPECIALLY when looking at the 500 foot coverage and the great price.
For those looking for a great "better-than-basic" product at a great price, this is it!
-
I however, have been "bitten" by the "Cloud" bug Huskee.
When my wife opened one of my holding cabinets to sneak some brisket while I was at work 15 miles away, I saw it, called her and said, "BUSTED! You just got into my holding cabinet #1 didn't you!"
She says... "How did you know?"
I said, the low temperature alarm went off babe...

Smoker: Lyfe Tyme Offset. Firebox 16" Diameter X 16" Long. Cooking chamber 16" Diameter X 32" Long
Grill: Lyfe Tyme 16" Diameter X 24" Long.
Thermometer: Maverick ET-732 and XR50
For smoking, I am a committed stick burner.
For grilling, it's all about charcoal. Almost always HEB brand mesquite charcoal. If not that, then Kingsford mesquite charcoal.
Just got my XR50 today. Now I can't wait to cook something. Of course "can't wait to cook something" is pretty much my full time status anyway. The arrival of this great new tool just ramps it up.
When I was unboxing it, the spousal unit asked me what I got.
Me: A new remote temperature unit.
Her: You already have one.
Me: Yes, but this one has FOUR probes.
Her: Shakes head. The engineer never has enough data.
Me: Guilty (If Maverick comes out with a six, eight or ten probe unit, I'll be ordering that too.)
PS - She will gladly consume the resulting products though.

I don't remember exactly how this compares to Smoke but it's darn close if not the same.

David Parrish or Huskee. Literature states that the probes are waterproof. Does this include the entire length of the wire and the jack? Thinking about cleanup here.

Thanks Huskee. I will follow that advice. BTW, a couple of weeks ago I was using my ET-732 with something in the oven. I walked up and touched the cable of the meat probe and got a static discharge. Usually doesn't happen here in the summer, but it was a dry day. That was the end of that probe! It went to a very high reading and stayed there. Luckily I had a spare.

I'm from over the sea's and received my replacement unit on the 30th. Again thanks for great service David Parrish

Update: After replacing the batteries that came with the unit with new batteries, the receiver seems to be doing good on battery life. The only problem is that after replacing the batteries, the receiver magnets are still too weak and the unit slides down my fridge. Not as fast as the first run units, but it's still an issue. Maybe the replacement batteries weigh more? I dunno. Not to worry! I found a workaround: see pics below. Other than that, I am very happy with the extended range and operation of the Maverick XR.

Yes creepy. I was going to suggest a disc magnet just below the bottom edge of the receiver, but after seeing this, I'm out.

It looks weird, but it works good! Actually, I have some strong magnets I'm going to glue on the back of the receiver and then this thing will go back on my tablet where it belongs.
Can't be having bugs around my BBQ... except for maybe mudbugs ðŸ¦ðŸ¤
