My first charcoal grill/smoker acquisitions upon retirement 6 yrs ago were a WSM 22†and 26†kettle, immediately followed by the dogs of MCS being let loose. When Weber introduced the WSCGC I had to have it, and since then have added several other cookers as well, with the consequence that patio real estate has become rather precious. I am thinking of having the WSCGC buried with me, as I would not wish to enter the next world without it, but have begun to seriously question the real need of continuing to keep the WSM. Does anyone here have both a WSC and a WSM, and if so, for what particular types of cooks or situations do you find your WSM to be a better option? To complete the picture, the other patio occupants are a PBC, PK300, The Good One Open Range, and Weber Genesis gasser (nice retirement gift from my company). I do believe my cooker acquisition to be completed, but wouldn’t mind regaining a little floor space if the WSM has become essentially redundant. Thanks! .

SnS 22" kettle, 22" WSM with Pit Viper, 36" LSG pellet pooper
24" Blackstone griddle, 6 Gallon Cajun Fryer.
50K BTU wok burner.
The PBC and the WSM are very similar cookers. So, if you are keeping the PBC, then the WSM is redundant. I would argue that the WSM is more versatile than the PBC, so of the cookers listed, the PBC would be on the chopping block. I also wonder what you do on the Good One, that can't be done on the PK or WSCGC? I don't own a Good One, so I don't really know what it is capable of.

Thanks, WI Bubba. Yeah, I agree the WSM is more versatile than the PBC, but the PBC is more convenient. I keep those two and my smaller cookers lined up against the house and move them out 10-20 feet before lighting them up. The PBC is less work, fewer parts, etc. The Good One has been "on the bubble" for redundancy, put it up for sale here a while back but no takers. It is an intriguing cooker though, and I’ve decided to keep it around for now and play around with it some more.

I think in yer post you layed out what you need to do. You accomplished it by talkin in it out. At this point I figger you don’t need a poll & a bunch of us just muddyin up the waters tellin ya as to what to do. One good thing is, ya got a mighty fine stable of horses yer cookin on.

Thanks, FireMan. Yeah, just tryin’ to make sure I’m not missing something, ya know? I’d hate to let the WSM go and then realize that it’d be perfect for something the WSC can’t do. Not to mention that it’s just really difficult to let one of my babies go. It is a fun cooker to play with, but can it do something better than one of the others with less work? I don’t know, just want to be sure. BTW, with your new pic, now I don’t know if you actually look more like a cowpoke or Gomez Adams!

Thought I would tie up this string by revealing how my indecision on whether to let my WSM go finally became resolved. As I believe FireMan was implying in his input above, I did ultimately decide to let the WSM go, with the hope that it would find a good home within my circle of family and acquaintances without having to resort to selling it. The answer was staring me in the face, as I have a young nephew by marriage (nephew-in-law?) that is following his interest by pursuing a career in food preparation, but as yet has no outdoor cooker of any kind of his own. He and my niece just moved into their first house a couple months ago, and like most young folks money is tight. To my delight, they were both super excited when I asked if they would like to have it, so there we go, best resolution possible! And I’m excited about helping them learn how to use it. I’ll be putting it in the truck on Wednesday and taking it over, looks like we’ll have a new addition to the global BBQ community. Thanks to everyone here for their input. 🍺Last edited by Jessterr; October 10, 2022, 09:15 PM.
