"H-E-B Knows You Take Its Tortillas Through Airport Security. It Wants to Help."

I promised myself I wouldn't post another HEB tortilla thread unless I had a good reason....well, I have a good reason.

You just don't see a headline like this everyday:

And yes, they really did take 5,000 flour tortillas through airport security (the sniffer dog got a bag of them for its efforts) as this Texas Monthly Magazine article details: https://www.texasmonthly.com/food/h-...port-security/

I'm pretty sure the article is not paywalled, but in case it is.....please consider this photo:

That is not AI; that is not Photoshopped, that is real. (And it happened last week judging by the use-by-dates of 6/30 on the tortillas.)

If I ever see a person rolling such a thing down Houston Hobby, I do not care where they are going, I am changing my flight to theirs.

The hype over their tortillas is real! At the Houston/Spring MeatUp last April, they were a big hit with everyone. My favorite is their Butter Tortillas, but they’re all really good.

ANYONE FROM OUTSIDE TEXAS THAT’S COMING TO THE CAJUN MEATUP IN OCTOBER will get a free 20 pack of HEB tortillas! I’ll bet jfmorris will now cancel his trip to Rome and go to the MeatUp instead….🤪

I just finished the last of mine today. Brisket taco for breakfast, and I made our houseguests smashburger tacos for lunch.

The thing is, they really are that good. I didn’t read any article about them or anything; we made tacos for dinner the one night, I tasted them, and the next day we went back to H-E-B and I bought as many packs to take home as I felt I could carry. And I felt like I should have taken more. And I should have.

I nearly joked that the photo above was your luggage.

I was eating them morning and evening for a couple months! I didn’t know about the butter tortillas, though. And the wheat and corn tortillas need to be used more quickly after thawing. That’s probably why they come in packs of 10 rather than 20.

I need to give the butter ones a try. I typically go for the straight flour ones.

The butter ones are great! Just a touch of butter flavor without being overpowering.

I have a package of the butter ones in the fridge now. They’re very good. I saw some of those all you can get in the box for one price boxes at the post office. I guess the Texas members need to start an export business to the other members.

First thing I did every time we went to HEB was make a beeline for the tortilla department and scoop up a handful of the samples... so freaking good.

realdocBBQ Yep, HEB has a little bin where they put out triangle-cut bite-sized pieces of their fresh flour tortillas. They'd usually be still warm when I'd pick 'em up...

I've heard you Texans talk so much about how good the HEB Tortillas taste. I'm thinking about ordering some. Is this a good idea to have them shipped to Minnesota in this hot weather? Thoughts from Texas Friends?

Skip I’m not sure about shipping them 🤷‍♂️. AI says this……

No, HEB does not offer online ordering and shipping for their fresh tortillas.HEB's website currently only offers curbside and local delivery options. While some third-party sellers may offer HEB tortillas online, HEB itself does not ship them directly, according to a Reddit thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/Austin/comm..._out_of_state/).

            Here's why:

            • Freshness: HEB's tortillas are made fresh daily in their stores. They are likely not designed to be shipped long distances due to potential spoilage.

            • Limited Online Presence: HEB's main focus is on in-store shopping and local delivery.

            • Third-party sellers: Some third-party sellers might offer HEB tortillas on platforms like Amazon, but these are not directly shipped by HEB, according to Amazon product listings.

Thanks for the quick reply Panhead John. It sounds like a good reason to visit a HEB Store in person.

With everyone’s testimony of how yummy these tortillas are, I am going to have to add a few packages to my luggage when I visit in August.

My luggage is going to consist of tortillas and alcohol. 🤷‍♀️🤣

                Good news Tami, there’s 3 H-E-B’s in Conroe…..
FUN FACT: H-E-B sells more beer and wine than anyone in Texas. 🍺🥂
