Anyone know what's up with Chili-O/Chili Pronto?

So, I used French's Chili-O for years and loved it. After it disappeared, I started working on my own chili recipe, but never could match Chili-O with a little Chipotle added. Thanks to others here, I found it was moved to the Durkee brand as their Chili Pronto product. I tried to order months ago from Spice Place only to find out after they shipped half my order that it was backordered (the only reason I ordered anything from them was to get the Chili Pronto and added other stuff to justify the shipping).

After waiting a couple months I gave up on SpicePlace and I ordered a jar from Pantryful and finally got some and was very pleased. Now that we've remembered how much we love it, I've been trying to order some more and it's gone/sold out everywhere again except for one lonely jar that would cost $40 from Amazon via Pantryful (kinda disgusting they've started gouging, it was $18 there before).

Does anyone know if they've quit making it again? Killed the Durkee brand?

Or does anyone else know of anything that tastes close enough to Chili-O to not notice the difference?

How about the seasoning to make your own?

Link works, but not changing color??

That's what I'm talking about what you linked to. Seems to be unavailable everywhere. I tried multiple batches of chili for the past couple years trying to make my own recipe that was close (and many of the tests were good to me), but the family started groaning every time I made chili because they only seem to like it made with that seasoning.

Looks discontinued, at least in the Frenches version. McCormick is another brand by the same company and this looks awfully a lot like the stuff you buy https://www.amazon.com/McCormick-Ori...44&sr=8-1&th=1 - maybe try some and see?

I’ve tried the McCormick brand and it’s nothing like the Chili-O.

Doing some investigating on the old interweb it looks like French’s is having trouble keeping up with demand right now.

I found this information on French’s Facebook page. Lots of people are asking for it and someone officially from French’s commented about it. This was on October 6th.

I only have 2 packets left. They better get their ducks in a row because nothing else in my opinion comes even close to the way it tastes.

I wonder if I could get back into the chem labs at college and break down the formula somehow...ahh who am I kidding a Chemistry minor means nothing when you haven’t looked at a Merck index or even the periodic table in 23 years. Though I think that Merck Index is in a box somewhere in the basement.

Thanks guys, never tried the onion or Texas style, always used original. Might have to give onion a shot though.
