Looks like a winner for sure! As for the fat…I skim it, but save it in case I need to add some back in. That way you can make sure it has the right amount without being greasy.

        It’s this coming Saturday,
I hope it’s a blind judging situation, but I don’t think it is. That puts me at a significant disadvantage. My wife and I are relative new to the church and many of the other contestants have been very involved for quite a while. At the end of the day, it’s just for fun. I enjoyed the cook & I look forward to tasting the other entries’ chilis.

Give them the benefit of the doubt until you know. You may get the surprise you want. You’ve definitely put in the work required to get “beginners luck”.

I wouldn't be too concerned if it isn't a blind judging situation. I entered a contest put on by the Winston Salem Jaycees a few years back, didn't know a soul. About 25 contestants. Got First place and best overall. Crockpot was empty in 25 minutes. I think you are going to nail it.

You never know, one of the most well known people in one of the groups I'm in is actually not very popular and if we had a cookin' contest the results would show it. Sometimes the new guys has the best shot.

North San Diego County, Oceanside Sanctuary. It’s a very small nondenominational church that’s inclusive and social justice minded.
It’s got a pretty rich history.
They are hosting a carnival to celebrate their 150 year anniversary on Saturday 11/22. Chili
is served from 12-1, results announced at 2:00.
          Respectfully,
          JD

It was such a fun, learning experience. Would have been just as fun even if I didn’t win. But gotta admit, it did feel like all that effort paid off.
Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and experience with us!
                  cheers!

Chili cook off day and the extra audience you were going to have…..

The stars aligned and BF and grabbed a quick breakfast and hit the road around 9:30- ish. Just mosey on down and take our time. Around Dana Point, I spied out of the corner of my eye something about the 5 South and Christianitos Ave. Paid it no mind. At this point, I do not have the Waze App going because I know how to get to Oceanside. We pass christianitos at a healthy 70mph….. feeling fine! Traffic started to slow a little while after that and I turned on Waze. ETA: 11:50 something. Sweet! Get past checkpoint into Pendleton. Screeching halt. 🤬😡🤬😡 Waze continues to add time to the ETA. BF reads the news….. we are locked in.

                      This was 11:00

                      this was around noon

Waze App time stamped with ETA

we eventually made it to Harbor Road. Restrooms and just turned around. Got back to Long Beach around 3:45.

I really wanted to support a fellow Pitmaster! You were in my thoughts the whole time!

                      so glad you won!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🥳🥳🥳🥂🥂🥂

I was wondering if that traffic phenomenon you described still existed on Saturday and I see it still does. Very frustrating!

You get an A for effort in supporting a fellow The Pit-master. It was so nice of you to hit the road with good intentions. I bet JD appreciated it.

                      Oh wow,

That is sooooo coooool that you wanted to come. I'd sure have loved meeting you folks. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your thoughts and effort! I am sorry that you bumped into that snag. The circumstances that resulted in the closure of the 5 are awful. I'm glad law enforcement were able to handle is so well. It could have been way worse.

SheilaAnn, I've appreciated reading your posts and replies. I've learned much from you and our fellow Pit Masters.

A sincere and heart felt, THANK YOU!

                      Blessings,
                      Jim D

Regarding the reason for the closure, it’s a tragedy for sure. By the time we got by, the bulk of it had been removed, but still lots of law enforcement from local, CHP and all.

And thank you for the kind words! 🤗🤗🤗
