Needed to pick up some snacks for when I get hungry on my trip and remembered this thread, primarily after seeing the prices for store-bought beef jerky.

HEB has their brand of slim jims for 24 for $12. They're longer than slim jims, a full 18" in length.



The outside has a nice snap and the inside is actually relatively soft. (I've never had a slim jim, so I can't compare.) Certainly salty, and a bit greasy. Tastes kinda like what I would imagine a dehydrated hot dog to taste like. Still shelf-stable and cheap....protein and fat.
