Fish tacos: How do you season your fish?

I'm going to make some fish tacos with cod tonight. I usually use salt, chili powder, and cayenne. Looking for a new spice combo. How do you season your fish tacos?

Generally, I love to use Tsunami Spin from Dizzy Pig. I find that to be really excellent on fish and chicken. I really don't make my own rubs, so I am really no help there.

You're right you're no help for tonight. But I'll try to check out Tsunami Spin sometime.

Store bought blackened seasoning is what I use. I may try to make my own one of these days.

Yep. I always blacken fish for fish tacos. Old bay blackened seasoning is pretty good tho making a blackened seasoning is pretty straight forward....

I like to mix chipotle and mayo for a sauce in the fish taco or as a chip dip!

Personally, I do season the fish but don't try to add a lot of flavor (the fish speaks for itself). I like to focus on a flavorful sauce and salsa instead ... much like this Tyler Florence recipe: https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/...recipe-1946664

Agreed. I just meant that I don't add a lot of additional flavors to the fish itself. Things like cayenne, onion/garlic powder, cumin, etc., I like to put in the sauce/salsa. Honestly, I don't know that it makes any real difference ... it's just how I've gotten used to doing it.

WHERE are YOU GUYS FROM? (well, just kiddin' it usually says where right below your pic)

I lived in San Diego for 25 years and fished Baja even longer. Fish Tacos are only made with homemade mayo / sour cream 50/50, the juice of a lime, cilantro, fresh hot salsa or mild and add Cholula to taste, and shredded cold cabbage. On the heated soft-shell.

I like them fried, my wife likes them grilled without batter. Neither one disappoints.

      Feliz comer.

I'll take those !! We have a taco place here called the Baja Grill, former Mexican from Cabo who makes them similar to that. Those and his Elote are to die for !!!

The only thing I would add to the above is to use Tony Chachere's seasoning.....killer on fish tacos !!!

Thought it was "shasheree." Any way you say it, Tony is the bomb.

I think Sasharay is pretty close, but I still say Chaaceree's

I recently picked up a bottle of this, and to me it's fantastic on fish for tacos or just eating plain- grilled, baked or fried. Chicken too, but them the chicken kinda reminds me of a cajun/blackened fish flavor, which is still good.

Troutman Most definitely. While I'm no expert in Cajun & Creole seasonings, I suppose it's very similar to what you'd expect in that vein.

I used some of Traeger's Summer Shandy rub on some fresh trout that we caught/cooked last week, and it was really good. I know its not the typical Baja style seasoning, but we really liked it. If you want something different, it might be worth finding. It has more of a citrus-herb flavor.

Well I ended up not seasoning the fish. I just cooked it in butter. Then I tried the 50/50 sour cream and mayo mix (tastes like tartar sauce). A little salsa verde, cilantro and sriracha. Delicious. But I like my mayo sriracha concoction better.
