Fish Tales in Faroe Islands

They had these sandwiches (there is some bread underneath) in the Faroe Islands displayed in the window of the place. Phenomenal.

Fillet of haddock, tartare sauce, chips, dried shredded fish.

The other was salmon, chipotle cream cheese, pickled jalapeños, caviar, radish, and sprigs. Both had little things of bread underneath.

The other dish is salted cod with potatoes, egg, pickled onions, and salad.

The islands themselves are gorgeous. One of the most beautiful places I have ever been. 75,000 sheep outnumber the 55,000 residents.

And whale! It is very fishy and salty but good. This was dried for about 3 months and served on potato. I realize whale hunting is very controversial but the residents feel very strongly about it. It is a way of survival as they are poor. They hunt with licenses, they have recorded every hunt for 400 years, and they share the whale with the entire community, even the elderly and sick. They sometimes do need to kill a group of whales as if they kill one, the rest will beach themselves and die. The community has also not hunted one for 14 years due to lack of meed. They hunt with islanders have a massive amount of respect for the animal. The islanders are not supposed to share the whale with foreigners.
