Cod, battered with triple-cooked fries and tartar sauce. We will forget mushy peas ever existed. WTF.
Bad. BREADED fish served with under salted fries that left a pool of grease at the bottom of the bowl. SERVED WITH RANCH. Even my American wife was like this is just wrong. Yeah, sometimes pics on a menu would be nice. Ordered in Edinburgh.
Definitely a cultural obsession. My sister-in-law is dating a Brit. We were having a discussion on British cuisine and he mentioned "mushy peas". I said that that sounds disgusting, to which he responded, "Oh you Yanks would never eat it. Have to be raised on it".
I resisted making them bc the name sounds revolting. However I made them once- mushed w mint—and they were delicious, super fresh and light tasting. 🤷♂️
STEbbq I meant for fish and chips, that batter looks too pillowy in the pics. Your pics look great but if the battery was light and crispy a side shot of a piece might have helped.
There are different recipes but here is a common version. For fresh deep fried French fries; cut potatoes, place in ice bath, deep fry for 5 - 7 minutes until pale, remove from oil, drain and place on paper towel, increase heat of oil, put back in oil for 3 -5 minutes, repeat a third time.
I once had a fish and chips lunch in Wales. I was on a motorcycle trip over there touring the UK. There were about six of us. We stopped at a little carryout place on the coast and ate in a park a short walk away. Lunch at a picnic table oceanside in the middle of a fantastic trip with just wonderful people. To be honest I really don’t remember much about the fish and chips! I think they were good. 🤣. But I will never forget that trip. Priceless.
