My optician catches walleye in the Columbia River, is giving me some tomorrow. I saw him today, knew he fishes, asked him if there is any place locally to buy walleye. No.

Ever hear about the breeding program they had up there? The Coho salmon were dying off and they didn't want to lose an important game fish. They crossed it with the walleye, which helped but it was still not robust enough. Ended up bringing in some DNA from a Muskie.
Program was a failure, though. The fish was called a Cowalski, it fought like hell but couldn't swim
Picked up walleye, 2 or 3 pounds, including cheeks. Gave him $10. "I am not buying fish; am contributing to your gas tank." At which point he took the $. Soon he moves into catfish, at some undisclosed ponds.
