Gonna second those who recommend tinned seafood, especially Portuguese and Spanish brands as per MBMorgan . It is usually pricy and, no, it ain't a sub for fresh seafood, but it's quite nice as, say, part of a charcuterie board. We've tried scallops, squid, octopus, razor back clams... Still trying to justify trying baby eels ($70 per tin from La Tienda--OUCH!), but can't quite pull the trigger yet. Anyhoo, try it if you can (do go beyond sardines) and (hopefully) enjoy!

Marketing. All these fish have been sold in the same darn tootin’ containers since God was a boy. Remember when (can’t remember the brand) had a little key on the can so you could roll back the lid?

I do enjoy eating sardines from a can. I've tried to recreate my mom's salmon croquettes but to no avail.

I read an article in the LA Times about tinned fish and where to buy. Vert interesting. I grew up with tinned food. Have sardines and smoked oysters in the cabinet. Simple meal with a salad and crackers or bread.

I neglected to mention in my previous post that there is a new US producer of tinned fish that is REALLY good. We've tried a few of their products and I highly recommend them: https://eatfishwife.com

I loved canned sardines in olive oil. Man are those good. They sell them in 6 packs at Costco. And they are a great and nutrient dense food for on the go or camping.

(They are amazing keto foods to, for anyone going that route. )

I love both anchovies and smoked oysters in a can. I also keep a tube of anchovy paste in the fridge "when a little dab will do ya."

My son, 19yo kid that pretty much eats anything, has recently found a liking to this. He came home a few months ago, went and bought smoked oysters and some kind of fish. He had a few crackers with them and was giddy. Then, a few weeks ago when we were at the lake, he came and visited, same thing, had these as a snack!

ha, when i was 19yo…I’d have turned my nose at those things in a split second!

Back in the 1700 and 1800's lobsters were considered food mainly fit for prisoners and they reportedly protested against eating them on a weekly basis. Times have changed.

The one time I had canned chicken I did not care for it. I am picky when it comes to tuna. It has to be solid white and good quality. I hate the cat food smell of cheap tuna.

It seems the websites mentioned by MBMorgan and Old Glory carry the same products on the grocery store display I pictured.

I'm almost certain at the end of the holidays the prices will be reduced. (I am the Automatic Door Technician for this chain) So I am at many stores a day. I'll follow the prices.

If I get a deal, I will do my research and make a tinned fish charcuterie board and post reviews and photos.

              If I don't get a deal, I ain't gonna pay $30.00-$100.00 bucks for fish in a can....

I really only do tuna and oysters, I've tried salmon but not my jam even though I LOVE salmon.
