Just though of this as I was looking for something. Dark side of the moon in the headphones. Here is/are mine. You?? Kitchen, entry closet(complete with spare side towels, and my "culinary go bag") and master bedroom closet. Got another in the spare room but that's canned stuff.

The jerk seasoning is not exactly what you would think of as a traditional jerk seasoning. It is good none the less though. I mix 3 parts jerk seasoning, 3 parts vegetable oil, two parts soy sauce and one part apple cider vinegar for a killer chicken or pork chop marinade.

According to Spice Islands website Beau Monde is "A perfect balance of celery, onion and salt with a touch of sweetness. It enhances the flavor of virtually any savory dish and is great as a rub for roasted meats."

The two best uses I have found for it is as a rub for my prime rib roast (along with garlic and pepper) and I use it in my dried beef dip I serve in a hollowed out rye bread bowl.

Yeah, that was what I was thinking by "dangerous". Lots of salt. I bet it is awesome on fries!

ComfortablyNumb Really the only time I buy bulk spices is when I am making a specific rub or something. There is a great grocer about a mile from my house that sells fresh spices in bulk. I found this to be way cheaper and better quality than buying the bottles too.
Most of the bottles I have are salts or the ingredients for S&G. Although, I should buy those in bulk too. Change might be coming. I need to get some small, glass jars to store them in.

I have always read that spices keep better out of the light. If you store any spices out in the open they should be in dark container as to let in the least amount of light. I have also read that they should be kept air tight and under 80 degrees

I reuse Penzeys jars. Like ssandy_561 I like Montreal (Penzeys calls it Chicago but it's pretty much the same thing). I buy it in bulk and refill the small jar so I can shake it on.

Wow you guys are organized! I have spices spread out over an acre! Some are in the garage cabinets. Some are in the house kitchen cabinets. Some are in a box setting on the prep table in the garage, some are in a bin in the storage box on the smoker.
And some are....well I just can't seem to find em!
One of my goals is to get that more organized. It's one of the reasons I'm trending towards buying more spice blends than individual spices. Less stuff to have spread around.

Wow! You guys are way ahead of me. I don’t know how I would keep track of all those options.

Right now I have all my seasonings indoors in the kitchen, my charcoal in the garage and a plastic bin on my deck (next to my Kamado) with some tools. I wish I could integrate all that into one space and the closer to the cooker the better. Does anyone have an outdoor solution?

          #12
This is why I buy my spices in bulk. The container is about 1 1/2 inches deep. Can't beat $1.95 for all that chili powder. Click image for larger version

Walnut Creek Cheese in Central Ohio. I live 20 minutes away. They have a giant bulk food area. Spices, grains, cooking supplies, soup bases, etc. etc. etc.
They also have a huge selection of cheeses, beef jerky and beef sticks. A butcher counter, about a hundred different kinds of jams and jellies, Fry Pies, a deli counter, a bakery and an ice cream counter.

Like others have said, I recently started buying in bulk. A lot in the little bags, but I have yet to find a better storage solution for them. So they are just in there next to the others. But tucked in there some where is one of my favorites, saffron threads, which is probably also the most expensive litttle jar I have!

Ive actually enjoyed being able to make my own rubs this way and cooking with the various spices I’ve picked up over time.

This is 80% of it, like most I have stuff in other cabinets. One of these weekends I need to come up with a plan and do some reorganization. I buy the bulk stuff at Gordon Food Services or Sam's Club.
