Here is an all purpose rub recipe, it can really be used on anything.
I notice a lot of people coat their meat in mustard to give the rub something to stick to.
Instead keep some vegetable oil in squeeze bottle and squirt some on your meat so it is all covered, then sprinkle on your rub and then rather than rubbing it in, just pat the rub to make sure its going to stick.
This is the method Myron Mixon teaches at his school and it works well
All Purpose Rub

3 T Kosher Salt
3 T Sugar
2 T Brown Sugar
1 T Cumin
1 T Chili Powder
1 T Ground Black Pepper
½ t Cayenne Pepper
1 T Onion Powder
1 T Garlic Powder
1 T Celery Salt
1 T Ground Oregano
¼ t Tumeric Powder
