    Although Black's BBQ touts salt and pepper as per their videos on YouTube How To Smoke Baby Back Ribs
    It appears they use more than Salt and pepper as found in their web site Terry Black's Pork Dry Rub – Black Family Hospitality
    Terry Black's Pork Dry Rub
    Ingredients: brown sugar, sugar, paprika, salt, garlic, spices, onion, and silicon dioxide (to prevent caking).

    Yes, I noticed that as well in the video, and went looking for their rub components - since it APPEARS in the video he is claiming S&P and a little red pepper, but it's quite obvious just from appearance the rub has more in it than that.

    When I went back and watched the video again, though, he carefully says he recommends you start with S&P - but he doesn't specifically say THEIR rub is only S&P. I think what he's saying is he recommends you start off with that combo, then you can work outward from there.

    I agree, it's a little... I don't know if I'd say misleading, but I'm pretty sure it's intended to give one impression, when that's not exactly what's going on.


    That's my take on it, anyways. I did catch that, just like you did, though.

      I also noticed light seasoning on the ribs, both BB and spares
      And uses table salt.

      Yeah. They’ve been separate companies for several years now. Family dispute caused Terry to leave and open his own joints. FOUND ON THE WEB👇

      Terry Black and his sons left the Original Black's Barbecue in Lockhart, Texas in 2013, after a dispute with his uncle, Kent Black, who took over the restaurant. Terry and his sons then established their own restaurant, Terry Black's BBQ, in Austin in 2014. The feud stemmed from disagreements over how the original restaurant was managed.

      Anyone who touts using only salt & pepper as being the best, purest way, must be boring.

      Imagine if you stuck to that principle in other things:
      Music: 'You only need guitar and piano, no bass or drums, if you need bass or drums you're listening wrong'.
      TV: 'A good show only needs black and white, if you need color you're watching the wrong show'.
      Tools: "A good tool cabinet only needs pliers and a hammer, if you need sockets and screwdrivers you're working on things wrong'. I could go on.

      GET OFF MY LAWN with the "salt & pepper only" thing.

      I agree, Huskee! Of course, I have found I do really love the S&P only when doing pork belly. I'm amazed at the flavor it brings out! I'll use plenty of pork rubs (mostly my MMD+ concoction) on pork but, on ribs, etc., I like to experiment with those. But with the exception of PBBE, which I'll be doing later this week in large quantity, when it comes to pork belly, I most always do just plain old S&P.

      I came to this decision a few years back when I did a side-by-side taste test with 3 pieces of the same belly - S&P, MMD+ rub and an Asian chili marinade I made up.

      We all resoundingly (and surprisingly!) ended up choosing the S&P as the best overall. I really was astounded, the pork flavor really shined through and it was awesome. The others were good, as well, but the S&P stood out head and shoulders above the others. Since then, that's about all I've done on pork belly - again, except when specifically doing PBBE.

      You are comparing two different companies. The Original Black's Barbecue (video) is different that Terry Black's​ Barbecue (rub), not even in the same family, just similar names.

      Original Blacks started in 1932. https://www.blacksbbq.com/our-history

      Terry Black's started in 2014. https://blackfamilyhospitality.com/#about

      If you want to compare the rub you have to find theirs which is here (https://blacks-barbecue.goldbelly.co...ref=collection) and also not just salt and pepper. It is Salt, Pepper, Caramel, Proprietary Blend of Herbs and Spices.

      But also according to Original Blacks website they only use this rub on their: Brisket, Beef Ribs and Whole Chicken.

      It is not listed for their baby back ribs, so they are probably not being disingenuous, they only have their Norma Jeans Barbecue Sauce listed as what is on their baby back ribs. So I feel like the video is telling the truth about what they put on their baby back ribs.

        @PanheadJohn you are right. I stopped my research one click too soon. I assumed it was two different families since I couldnt find any mention of each other on the websites. But looks like how they fell out they would want to mention each other.
