I'l tell you this brief story-- for my brisket cook this past Saturday, my wife's sister was bringing sweet potato pies for dessert. Mind you, I HATE sweet potatoes. HATE. I can't stress that enough. After dinner she handed everyone, including me, a slice covered in homemade whipped cream. I thought to myself ok, I'll eat this to be polite. It was incredible! It was like a really good pumpkin pie, just more texture. I even slowly tasted it trying to discern the 'sweet potato' but I couldn't, it was that good.
So, the point of my story is I don't have a recipe since ordinarily I would refuse such an item in my house. But, I'll see if I can get my sister in law's recipe and if so I'll share!
Hi, my name is Darrell. I'm an OTR truck driver for over 25 years. During my off time I love doing backyard cooks. I have a 48" Lang Deluxe smoker, Rec-Tec pellet smoker,1 Weber Genesis 330, 1 Weber Performer (blue), 2 Weber kettles (1 black and 1 Copper), 1 26" Weber kettle, a WSM, 8 Maverick Redi Chek thermometers, a PartyQ, 2 SnS, Grill Grates, Cast Iron grates, 1 ThermoPop (orange) and 2 ThermoPens (pink and orange) and planning on adding more cooking accessories. Now I have an Anova sous vide, the Dragon blower and 2 Chef alarms from Thermoworks.
I realize this is an older thread, but I'm going to ask around to see if I can get my grandmother's recipe (she passed away a couple years ago, but surely someone kept it). We're talking an old lady that grew up picking cotton and later running a dairy farm in Alabama, who never ate a vegetable they didn't grow. So...this won't be fancy, it won't be healthy, but it'll be damn good if I can find it.
That sounds like exactly th' receipt I wanna have for Sweet Potato Pie.
I hope yer able t' retrieve it from relatives.
Nuthin' in this life rivals Granny's cookin'!!!
