Chris Young, (Combustion), posted a video on air fryer fries earlier today. I don't have an air fryer, but I thought AF owners might like to see this video.

Not for me. I can fry 'em up a lot faster. I might think about his step of roughing them up a bit, though, for a more crispy surface texture, before frying. Or just get McCain's Craft Beer battered frozen fries and be done with it.
Deep frying frozen fries in the wok is sooooo easy, plus the wok loves drinking in that oil when it's at frying temps.
We by frozen fries and tater tots all the time and pop them in the air fryer. They are already pre cooked a bit and come out just fine. It’s about 30 miles to the nearest good burger places from our house. If we get burgers and fries to bring home we throw the fries in the air fryer for 5 or 6 minutes when we get here and they are as good as when they came out of the fryer. Tater tots are exceptional if you don’t put too many in at a time. They are crisp and not greasy at all. If we’ve been gone all day we’ll through some Tyson chicken strips in the air fryer then some frozen fries for a quick hot meal.
We love tater tots in the air fryer. We have found out through trial and error that regular tater tots are just OK. We get the following ones to cook in our air fryer.
More surface area means more crunch!
I'll cook at 375 for about 16 minutes. I’ll gently shake the basket every 4 minutes or so. They come out crispy like they have been deep fried but with none of the extra grease taste.
We like to toss them lightly in Buffalo sauce from time to time and serve with blue cheese dressing for dipping.

I bought an oil spritzer and I've become a big fan of avocado oil spritzing when it comes to using the air fryer feature on our gas oven. Seafood with whole wheat panko crumbs, tater tots, potatoes--all done in the air fryer and avocado oil is better than some other types of oils.
Now, if I'm trying to wow guests, French fries fried in tallow cannot be beaten...But by doing stuff in the air fryer spritzed in avocado oil, I feel like at least I'm attempting to live life day to day in a more healthy fashion.
Last night we had deep fried french fries served with gravy. Tonight we are doing it again. Heck, its my birthday coming up this week and I didn’t put an air fryer on my wish list, but I did put down some deep fried french fries with gravy twice.
About 1972 we stopped at a McDonalds just outside Moose Jaw Saskatchewan. Ordered fries and the lady asked me if I wanted gravy on them. I said sure. My introduction to one of the greatest food combinations in the world. 😋😋😋
chefchrisyoung that guy is obsessed with perfecting food! I think he’s on to something but I don’t own an air fryer or a deep fryer so I will just have to dream of a fry like that. Pretty sure I have never had one 😉🔥🔥🐿️
The trick to air fryers is not to eliminate the oil, just cut way down. I put frozen fries into a bowl, spritz with duck fat spray and toss them all around. Fries come out crispy and flavorful and I don't have to futz around with a quart or two or used oil.
