Ultimate Ham for sandwiches??.. if so how much

I cook for a small crowd of young men every Saturday at an outdoor gathering and I usually will smoke chickens or a pork butt and will make sandwiches or tacos but we since we have been doing those most of the summer I though I might try something different this week and a smoked ham came to mind. Would you use the Ultimate Ham recipe for ham sandwiches or something different because of it being sandwiches?

How large of a ham would you buy as I am unsure of shrinkage in a ham. We usually make 12-14 sandwiches on a normal hamburger size bun.

Also, it has been almost impossible to find any hams this time of year that are not spiral sliced. I have only been able to find them at Wally World and they have a Smithfield bone in and a SugarLand bone in... any opinions on one vs the other?

If you you think the ham is a mistake of sandwiches, I am open for suggestions. We just prefer something that is fairly easy to eat with hands since they do not have tables to sit at.

    Thanking you in advance.
    Mike

I wouldn't discourage the idea. But if you had a few weeks in advance, I'd have encouraged you to cure it yourself. Don't know much about the specific brands to give any useful advice.

Ham is no mistake for sandwiches!

Ham is a good choice, but I can't help with that. Another good choice would be smoked and shredded chuck roast. You can treat it the same as a pork butt.

I am thawing a 20# ham right now to use for tomorrow's party, I will be using the "Ultimate Ham Recipe" That I have used before with great success. My wife went around in a panic trying to find a ham, (Her party), I called my local butcher, He had a frozen ham that for me was just right. Obviously the thawing process is important but maybe a butcher shop close to you would your answer.

My first question would be why you don't want to use a spiral cut ham? I have used them with Meathead's and Chris Lilly's recipes and they do great. The spiral cut lets you treat more meat surface plus easier to prepare for sandwiches. I agree that smoked ham is a great choice for a sandwich.
