I have a pond, with a Snapping turtle in it about 16" in dia...

My question is: how to clean it up and do something with it on the grill? Any experiences or ideas.

Sounds like fun... I have no idea how to clean them... but when you do, post some pics!

I've never had it, but when I was a kid growing up in NE PA, turtle soup was a real treat ( apparently )

Be careful and watch those @#& claws and that mouth!

Big, Medusa said a mouthful about the claws and mouth. Even after being removed and for several hrs after they will bite and hold on. I understand that amputation is the remedy then, I never checked the validity of my sources! I have eaten snapping turtle, prepared by someone else, who claimed that turtle had seven different meats one of which was inedible? I rember liking it at the time, I also recall an assortment of hatchets, axes and saws laying about the yard and one helluva lot of cussing! I believe in the way of a suggestion you might want to give it another year to grow while you research the problem and find better advice! Dan

You need to get a file and stick the pointed in at the bottom of the mouth, in order to pull the head out and chopped it off.

We ate it in a red gravy, mostly leg meat that I can remember.

Better hold it by the end of the tail or they will catch ya.

After you get the head off....
