YES!!
It all started when my wife picked me up a bottle of smoked maple syrup to use in making Old Fashioned's as a replacement for simple syrup. What she bought was TOO smoky, so I thought hey, why not give it a shot.
In short - smoking your maple syrup to use in an Old Fashioned (or similar cocktail) will up your game bigtime!
You would never know that you added maple syrup as the sweetener - but it adds a whole new level and enhances the bourbon (or your whiskey of choice).
I'd love to hear what y'all think of this, and please share your results.
I used my MAK 2 Star and added a cold bowl of Pure Maple Syrup to the side smoker. I turned the grill onto smoke setting - which averages around 185 or so - and cold smoked in the side smoker box for about 4 hours. The result was a subtle smokiness that was exactly what I was looking for! I made enough that I haven't had to make more - but I would be interested to see what other's think and to hear the results from different methods (higher temp for a shorter period, lower temp for a shorter period, different smoke method, etc).
Happy Grilling!
