The last planter: 20 jalapenos join 3 surviving Fish peppers. In the pots are 3 jalapenos and a Serrano. I have 14 Shishitos left the will go into pots and I have 4 varieties that I ordered from the New Mexico Chile Pepper Institite, more pots ordered. Also pictured are two unknown tomatoes a friend gave to me. They will go into pots.

Looks like just a whole bunch of pot to me.

You're going to be picking a lot of peppers to pickle and pack.

I'm at the Farmer's Market at the local park and surprise surprise, there is a BBQ competition going on. I heard they will give out samples between 11 and 3 so my lunch is set.

Lunch at the contest. Turns out there was a ticket fee of $10 and only four of the competition crews were giving out food. Still, it was a cheaper lunch than I've had in awhile.

      1. First stop had smoked pulled pork queso nachos. It was pretty good. I've made smoked queso with chorizo for years but I may switch to pulled pork.

      2. Second stop had pulled pork sliders, really good. The bread was Hawaiian rolls.

      3. Third stop had brisket and queso nachos - also good but they used a sweet sauce on the brisket and I didn't like it as much with the cheese.

      4. Final stop was put on by one of the big plants around here: Indorama.

They had six items and I got a little of each: Pastalaya - good, cheese starting to break. Boudin - average. Pork belly brunt end - really good. Bacon wrapped jalapeno popper - bacon too thick and only got the tip of the jalapeno with not enough filling to judge - it was OK. Two sausages: chorizo - good, jalapeno cheese - My piece had some tough pieces of pork and the jalapeno was too raw for my taste. When I cook sausage the jalapeno gets a little more tender. Everything was basically good but no stand outs other than the burnt end and the chorizo. Some flavors were not in balance.

We were asked to rank the four places. I ranked them not only on taste but on balance of flavors. Here is my ranking:

      2, 1, 4, 3

There was also a car show, I walked through it quickly because I was hungry.

      I bought this T-shirt as well, $15.
