Serious question about the order of condiments on a burger. I normally put the cheese on the burger then lettuce, tomato and then onion. does it matter the order? What about putting some of the condiment. under the burger instead of on top.

The order is more about structural integrity, I think. How to stack the items so that it doesn't squirt out the other side during the first bite. There's a method, but i can't recall all the details. I think avoiding squishy stuff on top and bottom is involved. This would seem to require burger, and lettuce at bottom and top respectively, with tomato onion and condiments towards the center. I might even put burger on the bottom with cheese down, but IDK.
Even if my post didn't clarify much, maybe the bump will attract more knowledgeable answers.

Lettuce on the bottom bun will help with the juices from turning the bun into a soggy mess. I do…lettuce then burger, tomato, onion and pickles on top. But my favorite burger is with sautéed mushrooms and onions with cheese.Last edited by Panhead John; June 4, 2022, 04:59 PM.

I put tomato's on the bottom bun with ketchup then the bun, then the patty with pickle slices on top of the patty.
Top bun gets mustard, sometimes maybe relish.
My burgers are pretty simple.
opps, forgot the toasted bun....Last edited by smokin fool; June 5, 2022, 07:43 AM.

I put the mayo sauce I make on the bottom bun, which has been toasted, then add some chopped red onion to that. It will seal the bun from the burger juices. Mayo sauce on the top as well and then add thinly-sliced pickles to that. Place the bacon, which was cut in half, on the burger which has American cheese melted on it. Put the burger on the lower bun add the top and you now have Burger perfection.

We like our burgers very simple. Melted American cheese, bacon, and mustard for me, bbq sauce for the wifey. On a toasted bun of course. That’s it. So no special order of things required.

I like the lettuce on bottom idea but I haven’t done it. I usually toast the buns, put mayo or mayo sauce on the bottom, cheese burger on that and everything else on top. No reasoning involved.
