    22 inch webber

Whats the largest size turkey I can use, with legs pointing towards charcoals

    #2
Are you cooking whole or spatchcocking? Here is a 16.73 whole bird on a 22. If you are using a SNS it would be a pretty tight squeeze. With a snake you can probably get away with it. Not sure I would go much bigger than that. 12-15 lb would probably be a better size for a 22.

haha, thanks Troutman ! I think this was my first significant attempt at smoking actually. I remember reading up on Weber's site re: cook times and temps (and they had conflicting info), and watching a few YouTube videos where I learned about the snake method... I bought the Weber iGrill2, did one "practice run" with just the snake and no meat, and then pretty sure this was next. Then - thank GOD I found AR to set me straight!!!

The largest I go with is 12 lb on my 22". I typically spatchcock it. Coals piled up on one side of the grill, turkey on the other with legs towards the coals.

Ditto on 12-14. I just did a 20lb and I had to use the wsm (18.5) and it was a tight fit, never would have worked on the 22.

One good thing - I was able to say see, that is why I need more than one grill

.... and if you had a PBC you could have hung a bigger one. Let the wife shop for a 30lb to justify one😊.

Take a tape measure to your local store, measure the length of a bird whole and the available appropriate length on your grill. For spatching obviously you would need more, with an SNS even more still.

          +1 for the `12~14 spatchcocked.

I typically do a 16.5lb whole bird. but I don't use a SnS I use the older Smokenator. It doesn't take as much room.
