So, it is my turn to host thanksgiving at our house...for the third year in a row (story for another thread). I was JUST informed by my wife that she will be picking up THE turkey from the in-laws tomorrow... It's already smoked. What am I going to do with this bourbon red turkey I already have ordered? I was instructed that I can't serve it, as she doesn't want to hurt her mother in laws feelings when it is better than the high dollar prairie Walker her mom bought that is already smoked. More importantly how am I gonna prepare and amp up the bird I am being "gifted"? I still have the ham and plenty of other sides... But Dang turkey is the star... I don't wanna just warm it up and say have fun. I have been tasked with making IT The Star of the show. How is that done with a pre-smoked turkey? Any suggestions?

Umm, maybe ask the MIL how she would prepare it? You could look like a caring SIL and shoot for next year. Sigh.

Gotta save your turkey for later.
Otgerwise, piece yours out instead of doing it whole. Can serve the leg and thighs alongside hers and have your breast meat on Sunday.

Wait a second.... I’ve seen your postes on here. She has to know what you are capable of when it comes to cooking, right? Does she think she’s doing you a favor and giving you a break from the smoker this year?

Unfortunately, I think you’re stuck. I think the only way to come out of this unscathed is to serve the MIL bird.
However, I will share a story of mine from a few years ago. I was charged with cooking some rather pricey steaks on one of our cabin-in-the-woods trips and I took them outside and set them on the table while I got the fire ready. One thing we always do is travel with our pups.
Well, when I went to grab the steaks for the grill, there was one missing. It was dusk and I couldn’t see much, but I could see some canine shadows in the corner of the yard. I’ve been called "Mr. $20 dollar steak" ever since and all my steaks are escorted when the dogs are around.
So, any chance you have a spare table and a pack of poultry-loving dogs available!?

From my point of view do what will make your Wife Happy. At the end of the day your Mother in Law will go home. Just my opinion, and as you Know opinions are like @$$#oles everyone has one and they usually stink. Enjoy the Day with your Family and friends.

the great grandma's in law fell and broke her foot and hit her head. I thought I would get out of it... damn it, her husband is a Korean bet, and as most of you know, our veterans can not spell quit.... I'm so screwed. if this turkey, and now HAM (yeah they got a high dollar per smoked ham now too) doesn't beat my smoked mac and cheese, Cajun cornbread, and other vittles, I'm gonna hear about it.... Do we have a couch for rent thread somewhere?

just picked upsome Bogle Cab. recommended by my local liquor store to pair well with the smoked turkey. I'm not a wine guy by any means, but he said I cant go wrong and everyone who likes wine with food will love it. Did he take me for a ride? I got equal parts that and Candoni Moscato (one of my wifes favorite dessert wine 6 each), a 1 litre of Jack Daniels Single Barrel, and a pack of corona for $200. hope that all pairs well.
