When turkey frying because popular years ago my fire company had multiple calls for yards, decks, and a house on fire, in addition to a few related EMS calls. Calls started in the early afternoon and I remember Kathy and I finally got to eat our Thanksgiving meal after 9PM. People can be stupid.
I love deep fried turkey so I bought an electric fryer. It works for fish fries, chickens, and can be used as a big steamer for tamales or shrimp. The clean up is a breeze with the heating element just lifting out and a drain valve for the oil. Steam is a great way to reheat bbq also.
texastweeter yes compare it to the Butterball fryer. They are exactly the same. I was able to get one for less than the butterball. Paying for a name was never my thing. It has done everything they say it will very well and no open flame to worry with. It holds 3 gallons of oil.
If not cooking outdoors, I am cooking on the stovetop with my 14" carbon steel wok, 12" CI skillet, or in the oven with my two Lodge CI pizza pans, or two dutch ovens. I've also got a nifty Lodge carbon steel grill pan that rocks for veggies outdoors.
I saw that on TV last night. The idiot that burned down their mansion was deep frying the turkey INSIDE THE GARAGE. I imagine oil was too high, sloshed over the sides of the pot and hit the burner, and BOOM. Garage fire. Then house fire.
I've had a turkey fryer setup in the past, but used it to make beer. I never wanted to deal with the expense of 4 gallons of peanut oil to fry the turkey in. I had a friend who stored his oil in the freezer to reuse each year. I don't have that much freezer space, haha. I'll smoke/bake/rotisserie/grill my turkey instead.
This is fairly close to me and was all over the news on Thanksgiving and the day after.
Not sure if the homeowner was really this stupid and got lucky for years or did it in his garage because this Thanksgiving was cold, windy and rainy out. Either way, you would think by now everyone knows the one thing you do not do is fry a turkey indoors or anywhere near a structure, but apparently not.

I have fried several turkeys well away from the house with no problems. But all that oil is hard to deal with and I can cook them just as good on the smoker or in the oven. I have a cousin that fries one every year though. Not indoors thank goodness
