Picked up a managers special whole chicken yesterday to make today for the wife and me. She wasn’t home to confirm but I’m pretty sure it smelled funky. I’m still cooking it on the rotisserie to at least get some practice. What does my bbq homies do when something doesn’t smell right?

7 Shun knives (paring to 12" slicer)

2 Mandolins, 1 veggie spiralizer
Work Sharp E5 sharpener
Chef's Choice sharpener
Hone Rolling Sharpener
And, cigars, wine and some good spirits!
I would tend to toss it. Whether it is actually bad or not, a funky smell for a food that should not have a funky smell, is just not worth the risk to me. Plus, an odor that is "off", even if the food is good, leads to an un-tasty taste as we do eat with our eyes, nose and tongue. Just my opinion.

Large Big Green Egg, Weber Performer Deluxe, Weber Smokey Joe Silver, Fireboard Drive, 3 DigiQs, lots of Thermapens, and too much other stuff to mention.
I had that happen, also with chicken, a couple months ago. The “sell by” date was about a week into the future, but each of three packages smelled to high heaven. I went back to the store (Wegman’s) and exchanged them no problem. But no way would I eat them.
