    Cooking Chicken in my Smoker

Is it OK to cook chicken in the same smoker used for pork and beef? I know you don't want to cook fish in the same smoker and I thought I read that also goes for chicken. What is your experience or thoughts?

This sounds like one of those old "husbands' tales" that Meathead talks about.

I smoke pork, beef, chicken, and fish in the same device (PK360) and never notice any lingering odors. (I do cook in half aluminum pans, so none of the drippings ever stay in the cooker).

I cook everything, including occasional fish, on my grill with no problems. The only exception is duck billed platypus. They tend to leave a bad after taste on my cooker.

What I read is that it's OK to cook fish in your primary cooker occasionally, but if ya cook lots of fish, you should have a dedicated fish cooker. And we are talking mostly about the oilier fish. The big no no is cooking an oily fish at the same time as other stuff. I di that once and ruined a steak.

Thanks for the responses. I have never smoked a chicken and I wanted to do one this week.

Throw it on in there! Don't expect crispy skin unless you raise the heat.

Go ahead and toss the "don't cook fish in the same cooker" idea and cook whatever you want in your smoker. On the other hand, buying a new cooker is always fun, so...

I’ve smoked chicken at pork at the same time in my offset. No baffle - chicken by the firebox and pork butt by the stack. No issues of cross contaminating* odors / flavors.
