A loving family is never as important as in a time like this. It's wonderful that you're there for your brother, sharing memories and making new ones with a tribute cook.

I'm sorry for your brother because his long heroic battle is slowly failing, and sad for you and your family. Thank you for sharing your memories.

I created a quick-and-dirty Paprika Recipe for this for those that want to save it. Pretty sweet story and cook in tribute. Aloha!

Thank you for Paprika-ing that recipe.
Just downloaded. Changed the name in the title to DaveD, though.

fzxdoc Doh! Corrected on my end. Shows you shouldn’t do things before finishing that first cup of coffee.

Thanks for sharing this. It brought back really intense memories of my own brother Jim, who passed in 2009.

You know it. I always have... somewhere among my keepsakes I still have the handwritten letter he wrote me decades ago with the recipe... I see that in my head every time, he had a very distinctive style of penmanship.

I really don’t know what to say. I’m just captured by the love you and your family share. You are embracing and focusing on the good (FOTG) which I try to do as well. Thank you for posting this, though I am sure it was hard to write.

        Aloha Scott.

So sorry to hear about your brother, my dad died from melanoma too. I enjoyed reading the happy stories you posted. Sounds like you have a close knit family and really enjoy each other's company.

MY BIL is from Hawaii and gave me his shoyu chicken recipe, I posted it on the forum a few years ago.

I looked up your Shoyu recipe. Did you toss the shrimp and andouille into the pot at the end?

Thanks everyone for all the kinds words and the support. I appreciate it very much indeed. Scott is home from the hospital now under hospice care, and my sister Juli's flight will land in a couple of hours - she booked the first one she could get. The two of them have always been especially close and she was determined to be there for the end. Fortunately it seems clear she'll make it in time

My siblings are all much older than me (12, 11, 10, and 7 years), so if things take their natural course I'll be the last man standing. But I did hope they would all make it past 80... Scott turned 75 this past February. "There's more in the mirror than there is up ahead..."

Just closing the loop here: My brother Scott went to his long rest early this morning, last night Hawaii time. His body just kept fighting to breathe for fully two weeks after his last food and a week after his last water, but thankfully he was apparently not in significant pain, and mostly not really conscious. We are all relieved that he is finally at peace, but we will miss him greatly. Thanks all for the kindness in here.

He's free from pain and the burden of fighting that awful cancer at last. Brave to the very end.

Condolences to you and your family.
