    Boars Head Smoked Turkey Breast

I recently got this and if you have access to it, I recommend checking it out. Smoked with Hickory, dry the way I like it.

Glad you like it! Almost everything from Boar’s Head is top notch. Not just the deli meats and cheeses but also the mustards, pickles, relishes, everything.

I just picked up a turkey breast to smoke. Watched too many darn Goldee's BBQ videos.

@Moderator Jerrod--and other Brothers of the Pit--Seeing you are soon to cook a turkey breast, wondering if you have ever had any luck with a meat slicer?

My observations are that the cheap ones are super-cheap and useless, while the functional ones are huge, heavy and super-expensive. But would sure like to--on a regular basis--be able to smoke a tb or a top round and slice for lunch meat.

Mebbe this is why our delis and grocery stores have a monopoly on cold cuts?

Thanks to all for considering--would sure be grateful for any practical ideas.

I have a Weston model 61-0901-W which is definitely not huge and heavy. It was a birthday present so I doubt it was super expensive. It does a decent job slicing a turkey breast or a flat (or point) of brisket pastrami. Not deli perfect, but close enough.

I like to smoke my own deli meat too. Several pit members have meat slicers they really like. Since we don't have extra room for a slicer I use areal sharp knife and that does well for us as we are only a Family of two most of the time.

decently happy with the BESWOOD 10" slicer I picked up from the Amazons.

Smoked turkey is our go to lunch in the Draznnl household. Whenever we run out of turkey that I’ve smoked myself, we get the Boar’s Head. Like most processed meats, it is saltier than homemade, but otherwise very good.

John Henry here is a link to my model.

John Henry I have a LEM 8.5" that weighs 30lbs. Haven't used it a lot. Lotta work to clean. After cleaning and boiling parts I spray it down with an Ecolab Sanitizer.

          Works very well.

Boars Head is top-on-the-line in cold cuts.

I have been looking at Meat Slicers @ the Web Restaurant Store....
              Avantco SL309 9" Manual Gravity Feed Meat Slicer - 1/4 hp (webstaurantstore.com)

Not sure if it is true but 1/2 HP is suggested for cheese
Not sure I want to invest that much!

I am partial to Kretschmar's Hickory Smoked Honey Turkey, but they also make a mesquite smoked turkey that I used. Used a lot of cold cuts back during the pandemic. Haven't gone back much, since I've been back in the office.

I agree with the others. Boar's Head is fairly premium for not being a true premium brand. As someone remarked, they are a bit salty....but it is deli meat, after all. I've been trying out some of their low sodium options and they quite good. (And they aren't really low sodium....perhaps a bit less sodium would be a better description!)

If I buy deli meat I always look for Boar's Head. I like the regular Oven Roasted Turkey as well.
