My 12 Days Of Carb Loading.

The LW loves to bake and make candy, and she always takes time off before Christmas to have several marathon sessions. Back when I tried to stay paleo I threatened (seriously) to move to a hotel for a week, but I don’t enjoy playing Scrooge, so these days I just grin and bear it, and know that come January 2nd I’ll be battling serious sugar withdrawal. I know, rough duty!

She refers to these items as "candy". The toffee and fudge are killer, and the snowmen are as delicious as they are cute.

Platters are prepared for friends, relatives, and co-workers. I’m taking these two platters to work today. There are 12 of us, so there’s plenty to go around.

      It’s been known to happen…

It's a weird time of year for me in this regard as well. For whatever reason, I suffer from intense and uncomfortable sugar lows whenever I eat sweets. It's bizarre....if I eat a small bowl of ice cream, I will feel awesome for about five minutes, then the sugar crash happens and I'm miserable for the next hour or two.

So avoid sweet things which is challenging and frustrating, especially this time of year.

We had our department holiday party Monday and one of my colleagues brought homemade fudge. I am simply not turning that down! So I ate a piece about 1" x 2" by 1/2". It was absolutely decedent and utterly delicious! But I felt just off the rest of the day. :/

Ouch. Maybe you’re hypoglycemic, or the opposite.

Those are some fine looking goodies for sure! Fortunately for me, I have almost entirely lost the sweet tooth I had when I was young and had a metabolism. Just not particularly interested in eating something sweet except once in a while anymore. Not complaining, it makes it much easier to deal with this sort of thing!

Thanks, Dave. I guess we grow out of it, because it’s not quite the torture for me that it was 10-15 years ago.

I endure a bit of this kind of nightmare as well although it looks like you have it worse than me.

Oh goodness gracious. This time of year is so hard for me. I don’t abstain, I just try to control it. During ordinary time, I can just ask myself, “Is it worth the sugar hit?” But this time of year, everything is usually worth the sugar hit, especially stuff like that! And, I get a cascade thing that happens; if I start, then I am at risk to continue. So, I try to stay vigilant. And if I fail, oh well. Eventually it’s all gone, y’know?

My wife loves to bake and usually does a couple marathon baking days, including a day of “drunk baking” where she gets together with a few friends and they bake holiday treats while enjoying festive cocktails.

I typically budget an extra few lbs during the holidays that I get to burn off come January.

It’s funny because I’m not typically a sweets person. 99% of the time I’d rather have seconds than dessert, but come Xmas my sweet tooth comes alive!

          Same here.

For some reason as I have gotten older, sweets appeal less and less to me. Unfortunately, beer appeals to me more and more, so I do not reap any benefit.

Lots of delicious candy there. Good luck with the struggle!

I absolutely LOVE participating in the variety this time of year provides the sweet tooth! I will deal with it as needed!
