A successful failure is a failure that we respond to correctly: by finding the good, taking responsibility, moving on, and taking action. The "good" parts of these loaves will be salvaged for crostini, croutons, pizza bread, or such!
So, this is my first attempt at sourdough with Dakota Maid bread flour. I was really looking forward to some beautiful loaves à la Richard Chrz BUT, it was not meant to be; since there is seldom extra space in the fridge for proofing, the last time I tried outside and it was too cold, this time in the garage was just a bit too warm. So, to start with these two loaves were over proofed. Then, as first loaf was going into oven it seemed 500F was difficult to achieve so I put it in at 475F and noticed I wasn't getting the normal boiling from my steam water. It appears my ovens lower heating element failed
. So, what to do on the second loaf? I figured I'd try in a dutch oven on my pellet cooker... no problem getting to 500F there. Well, that seemed to be just a little too hot and uneven temp.
Good news is Amazon has the heating element for my oven at $29 in stock and I'll get it by January 9th.
