I had to get to the office early yesterday and put out a ton of fires and completely forgot to feed my starter. I fed it this morning and am really hoping I haven't blown it and have to start all over. What do you guys think?

Not positive. I think it can go dormant in fridge then bring it back w/ regular feedings. Richard Chrz is the man!

A DAY? Yeh, no problem even at room temp. It might be a bit acidic, but just resume feedings. If you want, pop it in the fridge and just pull it out for baking. I do that all the time... specifically, I:- Pull it out of the fridge the day before I want to bake.
- Feed it that morning.
- Feed it again that evening
- EITHER use it the next morning OR feed it and make a levain. But that presumes it's active enough and warm enough so that it will double by about noon.
- Use the levain at noon (ish) and put the starter back in the fridge.
Starters aren't that fragile, actually. You CAN kill them - heat being the obvious one. Extreme neglect will do it too. For example, if you were going away for a week and left it on the counter vs putting it in the fridge during a hot spell that might do it.
You might want to dry some too, as a backup. This is something I need to do, actually.Last edited by rickgregory; July 30, 2022, 11:40 AM.

Also, do you think I should feed it again tonight so it can get that lovin' feelin again?

hoovarmin - feed it tonight. I usually feed and then give it 1-2 hours at room temp before tossing it in the fridge. If that would be a pain tonight, jsut feed it tonight, again in the AM, leave it out a bit then into the fridge.
For the record, I just fed mine last time, shoved it in t he fridge and it still doubled, it just took a few days.

Thanks rickgregory. I didn't feed it last night because it got really active. In fact, it was so active when I opened the lid this morning some popped out and onto the counter.
