    I Finally Found Some Outside Skirt Steak….In A Grocery Store!

    As most of you know, outside skirt steak is more tender and flavorful than inside skirt. Outside skirt steak is damn hard to find, I’ve never found any locally, until today! I was at my favorite meat market picking up, what I consider, the best sausage in town. It’s about a 25 minute drive from my house, so I load up when I go there. While I was there I asked one of the butchers if they had outside skirt and he said no, just inside. I was on a mission to find some, somewhere. I then asked him if he knew any place in town that might have some. I was shocked when he told me yes, and it was at an HEB just 10 minutes away! He said it was the only place in town that he knew of, carrying outside skirt…..I couldn’t get there quick enough! Even my regular HEB doesn’t carry the outside skirt, I’ve asked.


    This particular HEB is a huge 2 story store with its own above ground parking garage, in a Ritzy part of Houston….I fit right in. 🙄 After going up to the meat counter, I asked the lady if they had outside skirt steak and she said……..” Do you want the grass fed outside skirt steak or the….Wagyu outside skirt steak?” Wagyu outside skirt?! Are you frickin kidding me!? 😳 I got both, for research purposes. 🥸 Anyway, I felt like I lucked out and hit the jackpot today. I’ll be picking up some tortillas tomorrow.

    Wagyu was cheaper than grass fed?

    You can ask your local HEB to order outside skirt for you if you don't want to drive across town for it. I used to do that for tritips and pork belly until they started carrying them.

      I was a little surprised also, that the Wagyu inside was cheaper than the grass fed outside skirt.. I didn’t know they’d order for you. 🤔 That’s good to know David, thanks. HEB is the best!

      They can probably get choice or prime grade, would probably be cheaper. Ask them

      Panhead John My son gave me a beef tasting for my birthday. We got an explanation of each cut followed by a sample tasting. The Waygu was like eating butter. Big Moe Cason contended that Waygu beef ribs were to rich.

      Sunny, was it Japanese A-5 Wagyu you had, or something close? This is American Wagyu, which shouldn’t be as marbled or full of fat. I’m no expert by any means, but I’ll know tomorrow how I like it. 🤷

    Good on you, I hope it's everything you hope it is. I absolutely love outside doesn't compare to inner...IMO

    I've never had wagu version.

      Please share it! The last one I did called for microwaving it on high for 30 minutes. It turned out a little bit rare.

    Just educated me, never heard of inside or outside. All I have ever seen here is skirt steak or flank steak.

    Well Panhead John when everyone said you like to chase skirt I had no idea it was beef they were talking about. Looks like a good score, can't believe the size of that Wagu one, should be a beauty

      I’m going to marinade the regular outside skirt in Good Seasons Italian Dressing, made from the packet, using Balsemic Vinegar, not white vinegar, for about an hour. I’ll sprinkle it with some Lawry’s Garlic Salt and fresh ground pepper. The flavor and juiciness it adds to skirt steak is remarkable. I’m going to just salt and pepper the Wagyu, as it probably needs no marinade. That’s what I’m thinking anyway.
