    Tri-tip “Steaks”?

So my wife picked up this travesty at Costco yesterday, $8.99/lb. Not sure what to do with it, so I cut the long narrow strips into shorter pieces to make little “steaklets.” Looks fairly well marbled, but I just wonder what they were thinking?Just assuming people don’t know what to do with a whole one? Dunno.

I asked my wife to pick up pork belly from Costco one day so I could make bacon. she came home with pork belly strips like above.

so, I made pork belly burnt ends. All was good, but I now tell her to pick up the whole pork belly, or whole tri tip.

But, yes, why cut a tri tip like that! Ugghg~ dang it! I’d probably make goulash with those strips cut into pieces. Or beef stroganoff.

I bought what I thought was a whole pork belly at Costco only to discover upon unwrapping it that it was strips. Went to the same plan B and wasn't mad about it.

I see these sold around here all the time and they are delicious. I prefer whole tri-tip but tri-tip steaks are very very tasty. Treat them like any other steak.

My Costco sells them also. I like them because of more surface area (more flavor) and the way they are cut seem to make them more tender.

Timbo is right. I complained to the butcher at Costco one time about there only being tri-tip steaks. He went back and cut me a fresh tri-tip and then explained that most people want the steaks rather than the roasts.

I got a Tri-Tip that I plan to sous vide, chill, then slice and cook as individual steaks. Yours obviously appear uncooked.

I’ve never seen tri tip cut up like this. But why not? It’s just sirloin isn’t it? So, sirloin steaks? Correct me if I’m wrong of course I could be way off base on that.

Poor tritips... I would have seasoned, and then pinwheeled them.

That would have been a great, if I weren’t so aggravated. What I wanted was a tritip. Of course I’ll treat most of them like little steaks, may Sous vide, a couple of the strips were cut so weird that they’re going to be kabobs, stir fry, or stew meat.

Texas Larry be sure to let us know how you cook them and how they turn out. SV? Grill like a Steak? Smoke and Braise like a boneless rib? They look great but I'm curious.

Pretty sure I’m going to grill most of them like little steaks. I’ll try to remember and report.

Wow! I guess I think of a whole tri-tip as a steak, not a roast. I for sure would want the whole thing - its not like they are that big! How big can those "steaks" be? 3-4 ounces at most?

Yeah, mostly between 4-5 ounces. They were pretty unevenly cut, but I imagine getting a tritip into even cuts would be tricky.

My local grocery store, Publix, only sells the steaks. Very frustrating. I've never tried cooking them. Let us know how they turn out.
